premiere: WING DAM - Cocoon
I’ve been keen on these guys from the always vibrant scene in Baltimore for a while now, and while they’re working hard on some new material, they’ve just let lose this awesome VHS-artifact music video by Nicholas Hoegberg.
Deeper listening on Friends Records where you can also get a copy of their Thick Phase / No Splash EP on cassette.
My dudes. Stay rockin the floral printce shirt.
Oneohtrix Point Never - Music For Steamed Rocks
Marcel du Swamp May 2013
Baltimore’s own Chris Shields, aka Marcel du Swamp, just released a killer tape on Ehse Records called Exact Cover Problem. Went to the tape release show last night at The Bank in West Baltimore which was absurd. Gratuitous nudity, excessive consumption, and tape decks galore. I picked up a copy of the tape (2nd edition of 50) at the show, but you can cop a digital download for (name your own price) over at http://www.ehserecords.com/mp3s_donation_tape.php?releaseid=308&artistid=91
Radiator Greys, Unicorn Hard On, and Form A Log were all killer as well.
Nicholas Szczepanik - Not Knowing (Excerpt)
Wume - EdgeCity
Caught this Chicago-based drum/electronic duo shred at The Crown last week. They opened for Horse Lords and Solar Motel Band but they definitely should have headlined. Plus the drummer is a total babe.
Death Grips - Lock Your Doors
Bill Withers - Use Me
gGarageband - New Driving Mode
Cinemechanica - Get Outta Here Hitler
Back when I was real into mathy rock and living in Chapel Hill, NC I saw these dudes play a show at Cat’s Cradle. I didn’t know what the dudes in the band looked like and I accidentally met the guitarist who turned out to be a physicist like me so we got to talking about some crazy shit.
The show was far from packed but the band was getting really into it onstage. At the end of the last song the lead singer was playing guitar at the edge of the stage facing away from the crowd and decided it would be a good idea to fall back into the crowd. Only problem was there was no one there to catch him. Oops.
There were a few chill venues in Carrboro but overall I didn’t really get down with the music scene in Chapel Hill. It’s been 3 years though maybe it’s time to revisit.
Comadrome - Change
Comadrome from Brooklyn just dropped this track from their upcoming EP. Dark indrustrial/hiphop/noise vibes on this collab with Ratfoot. Mad chill dudes, they performed after my set at Cheap Fest IV. Can’t wait to perform with them again//hopefully in bk soon.
Childish Gambino - II. Worldstar
